0V: what do you consider your greatest accomplishment[s] thus far?

ae: being able to work for myself fulltime, at 24 years old, and spend ample amount of time with my daughter. it gets no better than that for me.

0V: i know you have a second book in the works. what else is on the horizon that we can look forward to?

ae: i am so excited for my second book to be released! it’s going to be such a different feel from the first. other than that, what’s next? a few things, but mainly a momma and baby body care line that my daughter is helping me bring to life. i am so excited to venture on this journey with her! she’s only six, but it is imperative for her to know that the skies the limit, and she can do whatever she wants creatively!

0V: lastly, do you have any words of advice for those in pursuit of their dreams?

ae: go for them. fail, stand back up, stumble, stand back up and succeed! it’s possible. do not be swayed!

alex can be found on instagram (@alex_elle), twitter (@aisforalex),

0V: to many people, especially young women, you are a huge inspiration and guiding force. how does that make you feel? do you ever feel that is a heavy weight to carry?

ae: i am aware, and have just started to become ok with it. the pressure was on, but only because i made it a big deal in my head. the weight isn’t heavy to carry now, but i make sure that people know i am human, i am here and i am honored to share energy with them. it’s not just me inspiring them; they inspire me too.

0V: you have a substantial presence on social media. in which ways has this presence and accessibility worked for you? against you?

ae: i’ve built my brands on social media. it’s been a blessing in that regard! people look forward to what i have to say and sell. the only downside is the occasional debbie downer, but they don’t get much time or energy. overall, social media has been a great way to build my brands while connecting and reaching the masses.

0V: your journey is taking place on many levels: spiritually, intellectually, physically, geographically. if you could go on an all expenses paid trip anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

ae: oh, i definitely want to go to thailand! it’s beautiful there from what i have seen in photos and i love thai food. how awesome would it be to go there, eat authentic thai and practice yoga on the beach?! ugh, amazing!

0V: a very real challenge of this oftentimes abrasive and oppressive world, is remaining conscious, aware, and positive. what revelations and events in your life, led you down a path of love and light? how do you stay true to that path?

alex elle [ae]: accepting “quality not quantity,” played a huge part in this journey i am on. i think being stripped of friends, old love, and bad habits, opened my eyes a lot. during my transition, i feel like i lost everything before emerging and being humbled by what i’d gone through. a few years ago, i had the worst group of friends, i wasn’t being true to myself, and who i wanted to be didn’t match up with who i was. i really had to take a step back and become ok with being alone, before i was blessed with an abundance of love. i don’t have many friends, but the ones i do have are irreplaceable! my yearning for partnership and monogamy came to me when i stopped going backwards to old lovers. the want, to be different, came with the need to change. i learn something new about myself every day, and that keeps me conscious, aware and positive.

0V: your first book, words from a wanderer, was published last spring. how did you feel the moment you held a tangible copy of your book in your hands?

ae: i cried like a big baby! words cannot describe how proud i was. that experience was grand!

0V: poetry and writing can be a very personal and private outlet. what encouraged you to share your writings with others?

ae: a friend of mine told me to stop hoarding my truth, so i stopped. that was the best decision i have made in a long time.

0V: while it is evident that you put a lot of energy into your personal relationships, you place a lot of emphasis on maintaining an intimate relationship with yourself, most notably with your “notes to self.” what led you to begin this inner dialogue?

ae: i hit a place where i knew what i wanted. energy is everything so i started to write my life into existence. that choice didn’t just help me, it helped others as well. sometimes we need reminders to stay lifted in our light, so that we can journey on in courage. my “notes to self” enabled me to do that. if you click #anote2self on instagram, you will see thousands of posts from people all over sharing their truth and light. that alone is starting the journey of healing! it’s so amazing…

alex elle is a proud queen, poet and author of the book words from a wanderer, which encourages its readers with comforting words and messages, reiterating that “not all those who wander are lost; some are simply still finding their way.” here, alex reveals how she is finding her way and what it takes to stay the course.
0V: when did you develop a passion for writing? can you remember the subject matter from your earliest writings?
alex elle [ae]: my passion for writing was birthed around the age of twelve. i gravitated toward it because i struggled with depression and uncertainty, that i wasn’t comfortable sharing with anyone. with that being the case, i sought comfort in my journal.

0V: who are your inspirations: in writing, in life?
ae: my greatest inspiration is my daughter; she is so vibrant and full of light. i had her at age eighteen, and at that time i was in a really dark place. she changed my life, and made me aware of who and what i was living for. i also write a lot about my personal journey which helps illustrate who i am now, where i came from, and where i am headed.

0V: what is your definition of a queen?
ae: a woman who is able to keep her crown on during adversity is a queen. a woman who can greet hatred with love is a queen. women can do anything, go anywhere, and do so quietly without having to say a word about her royalty. i truly feel in my heart that each woman on earth is a queen in her own right, some just aren’t aware yet. they’ll get there.

0V: how has motherhood shaped you?
ae: motherhood has molded me into superwoman. i am driven to be a bright light to guide my daughter. nothing can get in my way when it comes to her. momma bear to the max!

0V: aside from writer, mother and queen, what other hats do you wear?

ae: i make things. my jewelry line shopals will be three years old soon, and it’s amazing how far the brand has come! i am a full time entrepreneur, so being creatively stimulated is a must; i try and keep busy with new projects if i have extra time. i pay myself to do what i love and it’s so worth it!
